iOS 9's predecessors: the evolution of Apple's mobile platform through the years

I never owned the first iPhone, because at the time I was using a Blackberry and the first iPhone didn’t allow for 3rd party apps to be installed. I thought that was stupid, considering Windows Mobile. Blackberry OS, Palm OS and even Symbian OS all allow such.

The first iPhone I wanted to own was the 3GS, but my only option was AT&T and I refused to leave VZE for ATT just for a phone.

So I bought an iPod Touch and I loved the device itself, but it got boring fast. It was simply the best platform for the games I enjoyed playing as a teenager. But that got stale. I want to be able to do more than just launch apps.

IOS has huge downsides like no support for open formats for media. Every platform has proprietary stuff, but Apple took it way to far. I don’t care they have their own, but support more than just MP3 and MP4.

The evolution of the OS as far as features and capabilities has been way to slow. Again that is the downside of SOME closed operating systems is Apple takes their time. If another OEM has iOS as well, Apple would have been ran out the hardware business after year 2 of the iPhone.

iOS 6 was the best last version I used. iOS 7 and 8 for me is an abomination and it is basically Tim Cooks twist on iOS for his support of his lifestyle. AT least that’s how I see it. I think it ruined the look of iOS completely.

Other downsides is iOS is forced to try to do everything with one button and as you can see it sucks. Press twice for one thing and 3 times for another is BS.

Customization was a huge thing for me years ago, but not now. But if I was using iOS 7 or 8 and I couldn’t change it, that would leave a bad taste in my mouth because I rather go back to the older looking UI. Apple flat design is terrible IMO and the colors are to girly.

Now iOS is better than Blackberry OS and Palm OS of the past, certainly better than Symbian, but its not even as good as the last version of Windows I used which was 6.5.

iOS vs Android? The biggest plus is iOS uses code that has direct hardware access. After that there is nothing more to say about it. Its an OS that is slightly betetr than what you find on a feature phone. I don’t like Android per se; but for what I need and the capabilities I need, even Windows Phone doesn’t offer them all and Android does and until someone else does, I wont be switching.

But watching iOS evolve over the years, nothing has changed. iOS 8 is a rip of others ideas and concepts that all suck because iOS is still to locked down for what it costs to have it.
