5 handy iOS 9 tips and tricks you might have missed

While Android and Windows phones have had their back physical or on-screen back key since forever, Apple is holding the fort in that regard, counting on the swipe-from-the-left edge gesture instead to go back a screen or few. It’s not comfortable to use on the largish iPhone Plus models, though, and, other than that gesture, you have to manually shuttle back and forth between apps, with the mediation of the home key.

With iOS 9, though, Apple is introducing a fresh take on the how-do-I-go-back puzzle, slapping a new “Back to…” option that appears in the upper left corner in scenarios where you go from one app to another via a Notification Center pull-down, or in another direct manner, and it is assumed you’d want to do your job in the new app, and quickly go back to what you were doing before. A pretty handy feature, though the choice of the upper left corner means it’s even further for your thumb to reach than the left-to-right swipe gesture, especially on the 5.5″ iPhones.
