Well look, last year with TSMC’s A8, or basically any chip ever made, has many bins, going from the hottest to coolest, there are quite a bit of difference between them too.
Apple took the samsung and TSMC chips and scraped those who weren’t good enough to deliver at least the same battery life as iPhone 6.
If you would only use the very best chips, you would end up with really poor yeld, limiting the production severelly.
But if you used too many of the chips (set too low standard) you will end up with huge differences from product to product.
Multisourcing ads yet another vector to this problem.
How to check whether your new iPhone 6s / 6s Plus comes with Samsung or TSMC-made Apple A9
