Teaser posted on Weibo by OnePlus executive confirms the OnePlus X name for the company’s next phone |
The third OnePlus handset, the one that co-founder Carl Pei said would be out around Christmas, has been dubbed the OnePlus X. Now, a teaser found on the Weibo page of company CEO Liu Zuohu seems to confirm the name. The teaser shows a screenshot of a map, with four lines converging to form an “X.” While not an official proclamation, it would seem to be a pretty good indication that the name of the new phone has already been leaked.
This is the OnePlus handset that Carl Pei says is being made for those who buy a phone for design, rather than specs. Speaking of specs, the latest rumored ones for the OnePlus X include a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. That works out to a 441ppi pixel density. Under the hood is the MediaTek MT6795 SoC, which carries a 64-bit octa-core 2.2GHz CPU and a 700 MHz PowerVR G6200 GPU. 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM is inside, along with 32GB of expandable storage.
The rear camera weighs in at 13MP, includes a Sony IMX258 sensor, an f/2.0 aperture, and shoots 4K video. The front-facing snapper is 5MP. A 3000-3100mAh battery is on board, and Android 5.1.1 or Android 6.0 will be pre-installed. Not only is the Type-C USB port included, but the phone does come with NFC. This, of course, was missing from the OnePlus 2. The phone is expected to be priced at $249.
Earlier today, invites were sent out for an October 12th media event in India, which will be attended by co-founder Pete Lau, and OnePlus India GM Vikas Agarwall. At that time, we could see the new OnePlus X unveiled. Despite the lower specs, we don’t necessarily see this as a “mini” device. Instead, it just happens to be a stylish new model, like Carl Pei said, designed for those who favor form over function.
