It has been assumed that the delay had to do with the fact that the Snapdragon 820 chipset has yet to be shipped. The Mi 5 has long been rumored to be the first phone to ship with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest on board. But new reports suggested that the model to be unveiled next Monday would be powered by the MediaTek MT6797 chip and its deca-core CPU.
As exciting as that sounds, it doesn’t appear that the upcoming event has anything to do with the Xiaomi Mi 5. Company co-founder Lin Bin says that Monday’s announcement has nothing to do with the Xiaomi Mi 5, or the Xiaomi Mi Note 2. Revealing a laundry list of things that the event will not cover, he mentions smartwatches, laptops and flat panel televisions.
So, we have ourselves a mystery. One possibility is that Xiaomi is about to enter the video game market. Another company co-founder, Lei Jun, recently commented on how next-generation technology skipped the video game industry. Stay tuned.
