Apple is expected to call the feature ‘3D Touch‘ on the iPhone, because of its ability to sense three different levels of touch: a tap, a press and a deeper press. With the screen able to read the difference between three different inputs, the feature will be much more valuable to iPhone users than it is to those using it on Apple Watch.
Besides being used as a way to navigate iOS 9 using short cut gestures, some rumored applications of the feature include one in mapping that allows a user to deep press on a location and automatically start navigating to that destination. There also has been talk about a deep press on the phone app taking a user directly to voice mail. Using Force Touch on a word could automatically call up its definition, and on the Music app, Force Touch could be employed to send a song to your playlist, or save it for offline listening.
The Apple new product event is coming this Wednesday and besides Force Touch and the Taptic Engine, we should see the new iPhone models each equipped with 2GB of RAM, up from 1GB. Powering the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus will be the new A9 chipset, and the cameras will get a “bump” to 12MP on the back and 5MP on the front. A new Rose Gold color option will be offered, and the handsets will be made using Series 7000 aluminum to prevent bending.
Besides the two new iPhone 6s models, we could see Apple roll out a new iPad mini 4, and the rumored 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro. Of course, we will be providing coverage of the event, so keep your eyes right here!
