Security update is being sent out to the Verizon version of the HTC One (M8)

One of our loyal PhoneArena readers has sent us information regarding an update being sent out to those rockin’ the Verizon version of the HTC One (M8). This security update is no doubt intended to prevent the Stagefright vulnerability from taking control of the camera and microphone on the handset, and also stealing some of the personal data that is loaded on the phone.

The Stagefright vulnerability, named after the multimedia library used by Android since Android 2.2 Froyo, was a potential problem for 95% of active Android handsets before manufacturers started rushing out fixes for the problem. You might recall that the other day we told you that the first-generation Motorola Moto X was about to undergo a soak test, which could be to test a patch for Stagefright.

If you own the HTC One (M8) and receive notification about the update, you should make sure that you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network before starting the updating process. In addition, you need to make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50%. Lastly, because the update is arriving OTA, it could take a few days to reach your handset.

Thanks for the tip, Lucas!
