Meizu has produced a teaser for an event that will take place on September 23rd at the Beijing National Convention center. With the words “Meizu Go Pro” printed on the teaser, one might think that we are going to see the eagerly awaited Meizu MX5 Pro. But that phone was 86’d according to a Meizu executive, and instead we have been seeing leaks about a phone code named the NIUX.
Just yesterday, a couple of renders showing the NIUX were leaked by Meizu VP Li Nan, who apparently decided that an official leak would be better than one coming from an unofficial source.
Whatever the name of the next high-end Meizu phone, it is expected to come with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display, carrying a 1080 x 1920 resolution screen. Meizu president Bai Yongxiang says that a QHD resolution display is not logical for a smartphone. The handset will be powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC, which Mr. Bai calls the best CPU available.
The rest of the rumored specs include 3GB/4GB of RAM inside, and a 21MP rear-facing camera. A 5MP snapper adorns the front of the device, ready to shoot selfies and handle video chats. Android 5.1 is pre-installed on this metallic handset, with the Flyme UI running on top. Speculation has the NIUX priced at $470 USD.
