The Android One program is designed by Google to offer low-priced, value-packed Android flavored handsets to emerging markets. The idea is that once entry-level smartphone buyers get used to Android, they will stick with the platform for the rest of their lives. The newest Android One model, the BQ Aquaris A4.5, is now available to consumers in Spain and Portugal with a price tag equivalent to $193 USD.
The Aquaris A4.5 features a 4.5-inch display with a 540 x 960 qHD resolution. That works out to a 245ppi pixel density. The MediaTek MT6735 chipset powers the device, and will contain a quad-core 1GHz CPU. 1GB of RAM is inside, along with 16GB of expandable internal storage. While an 8MP camera can be found on the back of the unit, there is a 5MP snapper in front ready to capture selfies and handle video chats. Remember when a 5MP front-facing camera was something special? You can thank the selfie craze for making manufacturers more focused (no pun intended) on the quality of the camera on the front of their handsets.
A 2470mAh battery keeps the generator humming, and the phone offers dual MicroSIM slots. The Aquaris A4.5 supports 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed. Google guarantees that the phone will receive updates over the next 24 months.
