According to Best Buy Canada, which today started taking pre-orders for both the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic, the two new Samsung smartwatches will be released on October 2. Customers up north can pre-order the Gear S2 for $399.99 Canadian dollars (about $300 USD), while the Gear S2 Classic costs $429.99 Canadian dollars (about $324 USD).
October 2 could be the day when the Gear S2 and S2 Classic will be available in the US, too, though that remains to be confirmed.
Samsung also has a Gear S2 3G (which lets you call and use phone functions without connecting it to another device), but this will be released after the regular Gear S2 and S2 Classic.
All Gear S2 smartwatches run Tizen OS, and are compatible not just with Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones, but also with many other handsets that run Android 4.4 or newer, and feature at least 1.5 GB of RAM. The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic offer similar specs – including 1.2-inch Super AMOLED circular displays with 360 x 360 pixels – but they’re different when it comes to design.
