Faster than you can spell overreaction, Ahmed found himself escorted out of the school in handcuffs. When the cops asked the kid to explain what it was that he brought to school, he kept telling them that it was a clock. The cops weren’t happy with that answer, and charged him with bringing a fake bomb to school. Eventually, after interrogating the youth for hours without a lawyer present, the charges were dropped.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella decided that Ahmed could use some cheering up after a rough week. So he sent the kid a Surface Pro 3, a Microsoft Band and some other goodies that put a smile on the 14-year old’s face. Mohamed wants to attend MIT, and has even received an invitation from the president to show him the homemade clock.
Kudos to Nadella and Microsoft. Companies as big as the software giant do have the ability to make a difference in people’s lives. It’s called being a good corporate citizen, and other huge companies should follow in Microsoft’s footsteps.
