Powered by a 4000mAh battery, the phone can go as many as seven days between charges with regular use. Power users will be able to avoid electrical outlets for up to three days with the Oukitel K4000. The phone is equipped with a Gorilla Glass protected 5.5-inch screen, carrying a 720 x 1280 resolution. The MediaTek MT6735 SoC is under the hood, powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU and the Mali-T720 GPU. 2GB of RAM is inside with 16GB of expandable storage.
A 13MP camera can be found on the back, with a 5MP snapper in front for selfies and video chats. The handset supports 4G-LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and microUSB connectivity. Android 5.1 is pre-installed, and the phone can be purchased in black and white for the low price of $139.99.
While a launch date has not been announced, we can tell you that this phone is tough. A video was taken of the Oukitel K4000 getting drilled. After some time, the screen had only a small dimple and the device was still working perfectly. Drilling resumed, and after two minutes the glass was finally cracked. While a chunk of the display was no longer working, the part that still was viewable still responded to touch inputs and the music player and speakers were still operating. Eventually, the screen starting smoking. After a hole had been drilled completely through the device, the battery was replaced and the phone turned on. Although the screen was a mess, it still was able to register the letter “M” drawn on the screen by a finger, which turned on the music player (“M” for music, get it?).
We wouldn’t suggest that you try this with any phone (batteries have been known to go boom), but for $139.99 it seems that you are getting a very sturdy device with the Oukitel K4000. In fact, we’ve included a second video that shows the phone being used as a hammer to knock nails into a board. Again, don’t try this with your current handset!
Thanks for the tip!
