Canadian financial institution TD Canada Trust might have some great investors on their staff, as the bank certainly seems to know what will take place in the future. Today, TD Canada Trust’s website accidentally listed Apple Pay as an option for its customers paying bills. The listing linked to a web page that said Apple Pay would support TD’s credit and debit cards, with purchases limited to $100 or less. That cap is customary in the country regarding contactless payments. Both the listing and the web site have been removed. There is speculation that the mobile payment service will launch in Canada next month. Even as far back as April, there was
talk that Apple Pay would cross the Canadian border in November.
Currently, Apple Pay is available in the U.S. and in the U.K. It was July when the feature made its international debut. Besides Canada, Apple remains in discussions to launch Apple Pay in China.
The mobile payment industry is quickly becoming crowded. In the U.S., Apple Pay is going up against Google’s Android Pay, and Samsung Pay just debuted in the U.S. on September 28th. In addition, there is now talk that LG plans on creating LG Pay, which will be available in the U.S. All of the mobile payment services receive a percentage of the value of a transaction, except for Android Pay. Google has decided not to take any fees for its service.
