Emoji, Live Photos update and bug fixes highlight iOS 9.1, being pushed out now by Apple

Apple has started pushing out iOS 9.1, coming a bit more than a month after the release of iOS 9. The latest build of Apple’s mobile OS includes a number of new emoji, such as a taco, burrito, cheese wedge, a turkey (which will be widely used next month), the middle finger salute, a bottle of champagne, popcorn, hook ’em horns salute, a hot dog, and more.

In addition, the Live Photos feature now can sense when you raise or lower your iPhone, so as to prevent the camera from shooting video of this movement. With iOS 9.1, you can now disable photographs of your contacts for Messages in the settings app. Issues with the Calendar, Mail and Game Center are fixed with this update, and iPhone users in the U.K. will get to use Apple News.

The iOS 9.1 update includes the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements. It also comes with special features for the Apple iPad Pro. And setting up the new Apple TV requires the use of an Apple device running iOS 9.1. The update was in testing even prior to the release of iOS 9, and should be coming your way OTA. As usual, it might take a few days to hit your iPhone or iPad. If you’re impatient, you can try to manually update your device by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install.
