Earlier this month, T-Mobile announced that it had enabled video calling for the Samsung Galaxy Note5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+. At the time, the uncarrier said that it would soon send a software update that would allow the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge to also support the feature. Today, that software update has started rolling out. Three more unknown handsets will receive the video calling update before the end of the year.
One of our loyal PhoneArena readers sent us a screenshot showing that the update not only includes the video calling feature, but also the new Advanced Messaging that T-Mobile has developed. With the latter, T-Mobile subscribers can send up to 10MB of video via text, and enjoy near real-time chat. It will also show when a message you text is received by the recipient, and when someone you are communicating with is typing a response to your last comment.
Lastly, the update adds Samsung Pay to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. This is Samsung’s mobile payment service. Unlike Apple Pay and Android Pay, both of which require your phone and the retailer’s POS system to use NFC, Samsung Pay can work without NFC by using the magnetic stripe on a credit card in conjunction with the card swipers that most retailers employ. As a result, Samsung Pay can work in many more locations than its rivals. It is expected to launch in the U.S. on September 28th.
Thanks for the tip!
