We’re now hearing that the new smartphones should be “launched” on October 10. The info comes from @evleaks (famous for unveiling many devices and release plans before becoming official), via an editorial published over at WMPowerUser.
Usually, “launch” means that a device is ready to go on sale, but it’s not clear if we should expect the new Lumias to be available to buy starting October 10, or if this is just the day when Microsoft will announce the handsets. Of course, Microsoft could announce and launch them on the same day. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Initial rumors had it that the Lumia 950 and 950 XL would be made out of metal, but it looks like that won’t be the case. Instead, the smartphones are likely made out of polycarbonate – a material that older Lumia users are more than familiar with.
As its name suggests, the Lumia 950 XL is expected to be larger than the Lumia 950. Reportedly, its features should include a 5.7-inch Quad HD display, iris scanner, an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, and a 3300 mAh battery. The smaller Lumia 950 should come with a 5.2-inch Quad HD screen, a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor, and a 3000 mAh battery. It’s said that both upcoming Microsoft smartphones will have 20 MP PureView rear cameras, and 5 MP front-facing cameras.
We’ve already seen renders that allegedly show the Lumia 950 and 950 XL – check them out below. What do you think thus far about these two handsets?
