September 3rd came and went without a launch of the phone, and a couple of weeks ago, a preview of the Xperia Z4v showed up on YouTube. But the video was later pulled, and so today was the phone. While both sides issued statements regarding the cancellation, neither Sony nor Verizon gave a reason for the decision.
The Sony Xperia Z4v featured a 5.2-inch LCD screen, with a 1440 x 2560 resolution. That worked out to a pixel density of 565ppi. A Snapdragon 810 chipset was expected under the hood, with an octa-core 2.0GHz CPU and the Adreno 430 GPU. 3GB of RAM was said to be inside along with 32GB of internal, expandable storage (with 21GB available to the user). A 20.7MP camera adorned the back of the phone, while a 5MP snapper graced the front. The battery powering the phone measured 3000mAh, and the Xperia Z4v supported both Qi and Powermat wireless charging platforms. Android 5.1 was pre-installed, and the phone carried an IP certification of 65/68.
The cancellation does nothing to help pump up Sony’s weak U.S. smartphone presence. Both Sony and Verizon are said to be discussing what to do next, although there is no word on whether Big Red will carry any of the three Sony Xperia Z5 models.
“Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile’s product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio.”-Verizon
