Including featurephones, Samsung was the leader with 19% of global mobile phone shipments in Q2. Apple was next with 10%, followed by the 7% of the market owned by Huawei. Nokia was next with 6% while ZTE, Xiaomi, TCL (Alcatel) and LG all tied with 4%.
While Samsung is the smartphone leader globally, and in most continents, in North America it is Apple leading the way with a 31% share. Samsung is second with 24%, while LG garnered 15% of the North American market for third place. ZTE was fourth with TCL (Alcatel) fifth.
Smartphones made up 75% of mobile phone shipments globally during the second quarter, and 50% of the smartphones shipped in the three month period support 4G LTE connectivity. Speaking of LTE, the U.S. and China combined to make up 67% of the market for LTE enabled phones during the quarter.
Starting today, and running through the end of the current quarter (December 31st), the stats will change thanks to the launch of the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus in many markets.
